ECONOMIC SURVEY RESULTS TO BE
ANNOUNCED
Recently, turfgrass producers in Texas
were surveyed to determine the economic impact of turfgrass production
in Texas. Funded by TPT, the survey was conducted by Dr. Larry
Falconer, Extension Economist with the Texas Cooperative Extension. The
results of the survey will be announced during the TPT Annual Conference
in Bay City.
Once the sod industry was small but it
has now grown to over 100 producers across the state. This survey is an
attempt to characterize the industry and show it’s importance to the
Texas economy. Dr. Falconer will present the information at the
conference.
As we work with legislators and other
decision makers, it is important that we be able to communicate to them
the importance of turfgrass to the economy. They will listen as we talk
about the benefits of turfgrass to the environment, but their ears like
to hear about dollars and how those dollars benefit Texans.
Dr. Falconer has been with Extension
since 1992. He is headquartered at the Corpus Christi office. He
received his BS and MS in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State
University and his PhD from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining
Extension he worked in the area of commodity trading for two commercial
firms in the Dallas area.
