Stephen Brown of West Columbia, TX is Elected to Board of Trustees of Turfgrass Producers International (TPI)
Stephen T. Brown, owner/president of Quality Turf Farms, Inc., West Columbia, TX was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Trustees of Turfgrass Producers International (TPI). Quality Turf Farms was founded in 1975 in Bay City, Texas. Today, it consists of three locations: West Columbia, Brookshire and Ferris, Texas.
Throughout his career Brown has been involved in numerous associations. He became an active member of TPI (then called the American Sod Producers Association) back in 1979 and Turfgrass Producers of Texas (formerly known as Texas Sod Producers) in 1978. As a member of Turfgrass Producers of Texas, he has served on its Board (1979 – 1981), as president (1980-1981) and remains an active member of that state organization. He is also active in both the Texas Turfgrass Association and the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association for more than 20 years.
He is the proud recipient of the Texas Sod Producers Membership Award and the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Turf Farmer of Matagorda County Award.
When asked why he accepted the position on the board of TPI, Brown stated that he thought the organization was important and with his son, Boston, taking over the reins of Quality Turf, he had the time and felt he could be of help.
Brown feels the organization fills an important educational role. “We have had the opportunity through TPI to visit turf farms in seven or eight foreign countries. Information is key to a successful operation and I have learned much from visiting with other producers,” he stated.
He admits that he
has some catching up to do on the various programs TPI is conducting
but is eager to do so. “I have no agenda,” he said. “Only to
represent Texas producers.”
Brown’s interests include airplanes, boats, fishing,
hunting and travel. He and his wife Delores have six children:
Boston, Beau, Greg, Dana, Darla and Denise, in addition to eight
grandchildren.
