Dallas Research and Extension Center to Hold Field Day for
Producers
Construction on the campus of Texas A&M University in
College Station has forced organizers to cancel the annual Turf and
Ornamental Field Day. According to Dr. Richard White with the Soil
and Crops Sciences Department, getting people in and out of where
the plots are located would be next to impossible.
As an alternative, the turfgrass scientists have planned
a field day for turfgrass producers in Dallas on Wednesday,
September 20. It will be held at the Research and Extension Center
on Coit Road in Dallas beginning at 8:30. Participants will tour
research plots and hear from scientists on the progress of their
research.
The following speakers and subject areas have been proposed for
presentation –
James Reinert – Chinch bug activity and resistance in St.
Augustinegrasses
Dennis Genovesi – Developing Turfgrass Hybrids using embryo rescue
techniques
James McAfee – Weed Control in turf
Dave Chalmers - Round table discussion on turfgrass issues.
Phil Colbaugh - Disease activity in turfgrasses – a 30 year review
Milt Engelke – St. Augustinegrass Sod production trials.
Kurt Steinke – Future emphasis on turfgrass ecology, fertility and
general management.
Grooming and other issues
Richard White – Turfgrass water use
More information on the field day will be mailed to
members in early September.
